Shur Trax Tips

Tips to make the most of your ShurTrax

•It is easier to install ShurTrax if the product is kept warm before installation. ShurTrax is constructed of vinyl which is soft and pliable when warm. Keeping your ShurTrax in a heated house before installation will make it much easier to unfold and lay flat.

•DO NOT OVERFILL!!! Please be careful not to overfill your ShurTrax. The baffle system inside your ShurTrax keeps water from sloshing front-to-back or side-to-side, preventing sudden shifts of weight during acceleration, braking, and turning. This is a very important feature of ShurTrax. Overfilling can damage the internal baffles and reduce the protection against sloshing.

•Many people ask about antifreeze in their ShurTrax in case they need to remove the product from the truck bed or vehicle trunk during the winter. ShurTrax is designed to handle the expansion of frozen water when temperatures get below freezing, and is designed to stay in place through the winter. However, if you expect that you may need to be able to remove it, you can add biodegradable RV antifreeze (the pink stuff), adding approximately ½ gallon (2 liters) to a SUV/CUV/Auto ShurTrax, 2 gallons (7.6 L) to a Compact Pickup ShurTrax, and 3 gallons to a Full-Size Pickup ShurTrax. The water in the ShurTrax may get slushy but should not freeze solid.

•It is perfectly okay to allow ShurTrax to freeze, as it is designed to freeze. The vinyl is treated to resist temperatures down to -40°F (-40°C).

•If left unsecured, ShurTrax can move in your truck bed; the starting and stopping motion of the truck will cause the unit to inch forward or backward. You can stop this movement by using 4 sturdy tie-down straps and attaching one end to the integrated grommets on the ShurTrax, and securing the other end to cargo anchors in your truck bed.

•Did we mention “DO NOT OVERFILL”? Just checking, because it is very important that you not overfill ShurTrax. 3 inches (7.5 cm) water depth is plenty!

•Always drain your ShurTrax when out of season. Refer to the instructions printed on the inside of your ShurTrax packaging.

•For best results and greatest longevity, thoroughly clean and condition your ShurTrax with a proper vinyl cleaner and protectant like Mothers VLR.

•Now you are all set for the next season, or maybe a little off-roading in the summer!
